My old dvd burner recently gave out, so I had to order a new one (HP | 1260I SATA R). My computer is a little old and uses IDE, and the only burners available were SATA, but I was able to get an adapter (BYTECC IDE ADAPTOR RT) for it.
After I installed the drive though, my computer said that Drive 5 was missing, and it didn't recognize it as a dvd burner, merely as a cd drive. Also, my regular dvd drive no longer appeared on the My Computer screen. I put the old burner back in and everything was still working fine.
What should I do? I'm using Microsoft XP on a Dell XPS 400.
