You do't mentioned which operating system you have on the computer, but after a reinstall, you will need to also install all the hardware drivers for the machine.. The operating system does not do that for you.. You'll need to check the IBM site for the motherboard/chipset driver, video, audio, ethernet, and wireless drivers should also be there. On a separate computer which has an internet connection, download those drivers to a CD or flash drive, tranfer them to the problem machine, then install them.
Hope this helps.

...Sometimes a driver CD comes with the computer.. Did you get one? If not, then the drivers are generally downloaded one by one from the manufacturer's site. In addition, it's usually a good idea to visit the Device Manager on your computer and write down all the device names, driver versions and dates BEFORE reinstalling the operating system. Frequently, there may be multiple device versions/drivers installed on the same model number and it helps if you know which device type and driver is needed.. For example, I there may be a Cisco wireless adapter on some T42's and on others, it may be an Intel Pro wireless adapter.
It looks like the drivers for your computer can be found at the link below:

Well i got everything else except the network controller so i can't go wireless. I downloaded the file and istalled it but i can't seen to get it working...no icon and nothing in the network connection folder. Is it possible that the wireless card is different, if so how can i find out what it is? This was a my old company computer they gave me, that's why i had to reinstall windows. Again i'm new to doing this so any advice will help.
Thanks again

...I see one Cisco, two Thinkpad, and three Intel wireless adapters. Which one did you download/install?
Did you try this one? Although there are no guarantees, it's a fairly common wireless driver and is fairly new.

Or this one looks right also:

I did try the first link and the one that was released 2010 which i think is close to the bottom. After it goes through the install process should the icon show or i need to do something else in order to activate it? i'll try the other two and see what happens.

was offered with at least 2 wireless mini PCI adapters. Both were Intel. I believe the more common was the 2200 bg but a 2100 3B was another. We have a T-42 in the house with the 2200 bg. I don't know if you might need some kind of intel chipset driver for the MB but you should check the Lenovo site for that as well. Sometimes you need to open one door before you can get to the other.

I was looking for that but don't see any. I found a chipset waiting to see what happens.
